Mt Halifax is a 1,063m peak in Paluma Range National Park, a 35-minute drive north of Townsville. The mountain offers dry vine-thicket, eucalypt ridgelines, grass-tree and she-oak slopes, and a summit cloud forest of moss and ferns.
The terrain is tough and knee-intensive — a favourite training ground for Kokoda Track hikers. This Track Notes feature covers three routes to the summit, from short day walks to multi-day overnight trips.
The area holds deep history for the Nawagi, Wulgurukaba, and Gudjal Peoples, with routes opened by early loggers, the Spartan Trekkers, and more recent tracks including West Ridge and Turtle Creek.
